Cornelia F. Bradford School PS16 Newsletter

November 22, 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Congratulations to our students on their amazing report cards!! These report cards are a tiny fraction of how much they have achieved this past marking period. While they comprise of numbers and letters, they don't tell the full story. They don't tell how well our PreK students adapted to their very first weeks of school. They don't tell how our 5th graders are developing the skills they need to succeed in Middle School. They don't tell us how our Kindergarten students are learning sight words and reading via Zoom. And they for sure don't show us some of the crazy dance moves from Ms. Thomas gym class! What these report cards do show, is that our PS16 community remain committed to ensuring our students continue to achieve their goals. We are beyond proud of all our boys and girls. They will continue to conquer any obstacles thrown at them.

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we do so with tremendous gratitude for our entire PS16 community - parents, students, teachers, office and custodial staff, security, Mr. Sigler, Nurse Brennan, Mr. Salgado and our Principal, Mrs. Watkins-Williams. We also extend our appreciation to Dr. Galano, Director of Division B schools, for his unwavering support of PS16 staff and students.

The CPA of PS16 wish you and your families a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Third grade students Paridhi Tripathi and Gia Alexandra Novell share their thoughts on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is almost here! Thanksgiving Day is the annual national holiday which Americans celebrate by traditionally sharing a meal with family and friends. That meal includes turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie.

The Third-Grade rooms 301 and 302 are celebrating by doing fun things like “Turkey Disguise.” We had so much fun reading the story, “Turkey Trouble.” Having to escape being the main course, the turkey had to hide himself. Tom the Turkey tried so many different ways.

Our teachers made this more interesting by giving us a fun project, “Turkey in Disguise.” Everyone in the class got a copy of a turkey, and we had to disguise it. We had a lot of fun as everyone created a different appearance of their “turkey.” We got to show our creativity and after we were finished, we shared them with our classmates. This is a great activity for Thanksgiving, especially for the “Covid-19 Thanksgiving.”

Happy Thanksgiving to our P.S.16 Family!

Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the holiday season. This year, our school needs our help more than ever. We are unable to host most of our regular fundraising events and while we are trying to develop new initiatives with the help of our Fundraising Committee, we fear we may fall short when our school and students need our support. As Giving Tuesday approaches, we ask those of you who are in a position to contribute financially to consider The CPA of PS16 for your charitable donation. Donations can be made via this link on our website. Your generosity is much appreciated.

Our next CPA monthly meeting will take place, via Zoom, on Monday December 7th at 6pm. Please sign up in advance by completing this Google Form

On Wednesday November 25th schools will have an early dismissal. Schools will be CLOSED on November 26th and 27th to celebrate Thanksgiving. The calendar for the 2020-21 school year can be found here.
