Our third grade student council representatives invited their classmates to submit articles for the newsletter. The articles could be anything the students wished to write about. Everything you will read in this newsletter has been written, edited and proudly shared by the students of third grade (8 and 9 year old's!!)
My school is a great school. PS16 or Cornelia F Bradford Elementary School is on Sussex street and Washington street. My homeroom is the third grade classroom, 301 and my teacher is Mrs. Warrington. All my teachers were great, from my kindergarten teacher Ms. Nicholas to Mrs. Warrington. There are 27 homerooms and 3 floors at my school. The Third floor is the biggest.

My favorite subject is library. Mrs. Hennessey’s room or the library is on the third floor in the corner next to one of the two staircases. The Library has a lot of books which kids can borrow. Don’t get too comfortable because you have to return them next week. Another teacher’s room on the third floor is Mrs. Gordon’s room. Mrs. Gordon is the art teacher at my school so this room is the art room. The art room is split into two sections. When I have art every year we always go to the same section, the left side. The right side is the computer lab which casper kids might go to.

The gym room is not on the third floor. In fact it is not on a floor. It is in the basement next to the lunch room. My gym teacher is Ms. Thomas. She sets up fun seasonal activities like tee ball or kickball for us. These activities are usually in every season but the winter. At my school we have two music teachers Dr. Manes and Mr. Stroh. Dr. Manes teaches music in the auditorium while Mr. Stroh comes to your class and teaches. Dr. Manes plays the piano but Mr. Stroh plays the guitar. They have some important differences but, they are still great music teachers. One of the only two teachers at my school that comes into your classroom and teaches is Senor Atencio. He is our Spanish teacher. He teaches on the promethean board on a powerpoint.

Mrs. Warrington is my homeroom teacher. She only teaches math because from 3-5 grades teachers only teach math or ela. Mrs. Warrington is very funny. She has two cats Sisco and Jane. Before Jane, Mrs. Warrington used to have a third cat Dexter whom I miss because Dexter just died of mouth cancer in January 2021. Last but not least Mrs. Amadeo. Mrs. Amadeo is my ela (English language arts) teacher. Her homeroom is 302. She has a lot of empathy and gives us brain breaks to keep our eyes safe from the screen.

Everyday school is fun. Even on gloomy days my teachers make it fun. For example at recess if it is raining we still get to sit in the auditorium and watch a movie or whatever they put on the T.V.
Hello my name is Aziza Willoughby and this is my article about something I did at Cornelia F Bradford School.

How It Started

A few months back on September 22, 2020 when Ms. Warrington ( My 3rd grade teacher) made an announcement telling everyone about the details for being Class President or Vice-President. Of course I was too scared to try to see if I’ll fit as a president since i know it will be a lot of work for eight (when this is due i will be 9) year old me but i wanted to try something new. It's been 15 days now October 6, 2020 and I voted for a friend and did my presentation to present to Mr. Sigler. Now it's time for the votes to be counted and the Presidents to be chosen. I was doing my test for Mrs. Amadeo then I checked my Google Classroom to see who won. I looked at my screen and read it slowly, C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S Atharv is our Class President and A-Z-I-Z-A is our Vice President. I was so happy I even showed my dog but I had to finish my test then get excited. It's been 39 minutes after my test and I had to go back to class so I joined the meeting and my class greeted us yelling “CONGRATULATIONS ATHARV AND AZIZA” I was so thankful so I had to say back “ THANK YOU SO MUCH “. It's been 2 weeks and it was my first ever Student Council meeting and I had no idea what to say my hands were shaking so I just clicked the Zoom button and unmuted very fast saying “Hello everyone” and muted. There was a lot of talking about how to change the school , different raffles and what should be in the classroom/ what rules should be there. After 20 minutes it was over I didn't want to unmute again so I just waved and left. I realized it wasn't that bad and I could perhaps get used to it quickly.

It's now been 5 months now March 23 , 2021.To let you know I'm still Vice President of 302. It's amazing but now I have to email my classmates about information a lot. I cant wait to try running for Class President in 2022-2023.
Room 309 were all very excited to meet up with their teacher, Ms. Cartagena, and their classmates to exchange Valentine's treats! Ms. Cartagena asked the class to smile for a photo even though we all had our masks on! Ms. Warrington and Mrs. Amadeo also met up with their students to exchange Valentine's! How loved are we!

I love school a lot. It is very fun and exciting. I have learned so much. These months have been very difficult due to the coronavirus, but all the teachers have worked very hard to make this year a lot of fun and I think they have succeeded. One thing that I like about school is my teachers. My teachers are the best and are very funny. Another thing that I like about school is recess and lunch. I really like them because I think they are a great time to hang out with friends, talk and play. The last thing I like about school is my classes. My classes teach me so much and teach me so many techniques. One thing that I would like to add to school are signs that say "Save the Earth", "Don't throw litter" and "Plants are living things, PLEASE don't pick them". The coronavirus has given everybody a hard time, but they all taught us that family is very important. Of course, we are all bored and scared. Something that I did to keep myself busy is doing artwork. Ever since Covid, I have had more time for drawing. I even learned how to color online. Also, I learned how to cook and bake. Now, I can cook pasta and bake cookies all by myself! I really hope that COVID-19 goes away soon so I can go back to school and finally go outside and do outdoor activities.
I like to read different books. Usually, I read about architecture, history, animals, famous places, famous buildings and others. My teacher recommended a series of Magic Treehouse. My parents bought me the whole series. It is 28 books. I read 7 books and I want to share about my experience.

In the series, a mysterious tree house appeared in the woods in Frog Creek, Pennsylvania. Two children climbed into the tree house. They were eight-year-old Jack and his seven-year-old sister, Annie. There were a lot of different books in the magic tree house. It could bring you to any place that was in a book. Jack and Annie had to point to a picture in the books and wish to go there. They visited dinosaurs, knights, an Egyptian queen, pirates, ninjas, the Amazon rainforest, and other interesting places. Each of their adventures was cool and exciting.

I recommend this series if you like reading about history, nature, space, science, geography, or wildlife. Each book is a new adventure in different places and time. The main characters are also the same age as us!
While reading, you can learn new words, new facts, and useful information about everything. When you read these books, you can feel that you are there. I am glad that I found this series. I want to read all the books. Read these books and enjoy!

In our classroom (Room 309), we do fun things over the computer like a drawing conclusions detective activity, group projects, Kahoot games, dressing up on Fridays, and more. My favorite activity is group projects and Kahoots. Our teacher includes fun activities for holidays but we also get these things if we work hard. We made a deal with our teacher at the beginning of the school year to get all of these things, “You work hard for me, I’ll work hard for you.” It means if we work hard in school we get all these fun things. Sometimes if we do not do well, our rewards are taken away--there was one time when some students did not do their homework and so we did not get to play Kahoot. This is important to us because we enjoy it. We do not get them every day but it is very exciting when we do. We also get surprised a lot but sometimes she tells us when we are going to do it and then we can not wait until that day. Andrew Morales said, "I have lots of fun with the Kahoot games!" President Ethan Santosh said, “The Kahoots are fun and from some of them you can get very smart. They are great things to do in class but they need to be earned.”
Room 302 has been having fun Friday activity with Liberty Science Centre and the Jersey City Public Library since January 2021. In the fun Friday activity we are doing many fun activities with new learning. We eagerly wait for Friday to have LSC class because it's too much fun. Despite not being at school, this fun activity makes us all laugh together, cheer together and learn new things together.

In fun activities we have learned so many things that it's hard to describe all of them here but I would like to share a few of them. We learned about special doctors from the old days who helped a boy whose body color was blue and the doctor helped him to have normal skin color. We also learned that the human body has 78 organs and learned many things about the heart and lungs. I didn’t know that the human heart is not in the shape we draw normally but it actually looks like strawberry shape. We learned how to play music without any musical instrument so we made music with our pencil, pen, books and boxes. It was amazing and we all did a great job making different music. I loved Ms. Alyssa. I forgot to mention, last week we learned sign language with Ms. Alyssa which was very interesting because if we know sign language you can help deaf and hard of hearing community. Learning ”do re mi fa so fa mi re do” was a first step and I would like to learn more to help my community.

Last Friday Mrs. Amadeo gave us a fun activity to write about “women who inspire me”. I wrote about Taylor Swift because she inspires me a lot. Everyone in the class had fun talking about the women they wrote about.

I wish this fun activity would keep going even after school closed. 2020 was a difficult year for all of us but I am excited to go back to the school and join fun activities with my friends.
When I was informed that we were not going to school I thought that it was good and I could play all day but then I realized Covid-19 was serious. I was not able to say bye to my second grade teachers and friends. Third grade was beginning, I was looking forward to a lot of things. When I found out I could not go to school I realized that Covid-19 took away so much. I was not able to have my own locker, the Halloween dance party and most of all meeting new teachers and friends. I joined a math club debate club , mystery book club and a book club called hoot. I could see that all teachers were trying to make online classes fun and I really appreciate that.
All of our teachers are amazing and work very hard to keep us happy in this difficult time.

Our Math teacher, Ms. Warrington gives us one dojo point if we participate and get the math question correct. She also makes sure everyone gets a chance to speak and ask a question. She shares hilarious jokes and interesting riddles. She does everything to make our class fun and exciting. Thank you, l learned so much from you!!

Also, our English teacher Ms. Amadeo makes reading comprehensions come to life. Ms. Amadeo also does kahoot's before our weekly tests and explains the story and answers our questions. She also gives us 30 minutes brain breaks so our eyes do not hurt. Thank you for inspiring hope, igniting the imagination, and instilling a love of learning!!

Thank you, Ms. Williams, Ms.Thomas, Ms. Gordon, Ms. Hennessey, Mr. Stroh, and Mr. Atencio for everything you do for us. We have an amazing Principal, Ms.Watkins Williams, and a wonderful guidance counselor, Mr. Sigler.
I am very lucky to be a part of this wonderful school, PS.16.
On a bright Saturday afternoon, my classmates and I had a biking trip with my teacher, Ms. Warrington. We all were supposed to meet at Liberty State Park at noon. Miraculously, Isabela and I got there before Ms. Warrington. A while later, Leo and Matheus got there. Soon, we were speeding down the road on our bikes. When we became tired, we had a break. We had gone a long way, yet we didn’t want to turn back. We wanted to bike for as far as we could. Once we got water, we kept on going, still as fast as speeding cars. As we biked, we could feel the nice breeze. We could see the shining water of the Hudson River. And as we pedaled faster and faster, we could see the beautiful golden and green patterns of the Statue of Liberty. When we were really close to the end, we took a picture with the Statue of Liberty in the background. Very little time passed, and we got to the playground. Now, our only job was to get back. As we biked along the narrow path, we saw different places where we could exercise. One of them looked very interesting to me, and I badly wanted to try it. I had to resist the urge and keep on biking. Finally, we got to the end. We all seemed tired, but were able to squeeze the words “Bye, Bye” as we collapsed. We had a fun time biking with our teacher.

Fun Friday is very fun and amazing! I learn many new things everyday along with some activities too, like we learned about our heart and some facts about women that were important as it was women’s History month. Today, March 26th 2021, on a fun Friday we read “The Name Jar” which was a very good book. Then, an artist taught us how to draw Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter. We learnt some facts about Frida Kahlo like, that she got hurt badly in a bus accident however she still worked hard and became a famous artist.

How would I feel going back to school after a very long time? In the beginning of quarantine, due to Covid-19, since we did not have school, I was missing my teachers and friends because I could not come to class. I had to take online virtual classes. I was sometimes bored staying at home and have been at home for a long time. I want to get back to school and see my friends and teachers again.

As schools are planning to open, when I get back to school, the most important thing is to make sure I wear masks and be very careful. I will need to keep distance by staying 5-6 feet away from my friends. We will need ourselves so the virus doesn’t get on anything, so it won't spread, and we need to sanitize our belongings regularly. I think going back to school will be fun if we make sure we follow rules to stop from spreading viruses. This will not just keep me safe but all the people around me will be safe too. There is a famous saying “ Prepare and prevent, don't repair and repent”.

In conclusion, going back to school will be awesome because I will see my teachers and friends and it will be like the good old days and we can play, learn, and share good times together like we used to do before.
